Russian Timber History
Russian Whitewood and Redwood from the Norther most regions of Russia are slow grown and high-quality joinery material ideal for reprocessing to smaller profiles and PSE products.
The Whitewood is of generally most famed for the export markets from the Archangel region in Northern Karelia although still a lot of good Whitewood for Europe comes from further South and east as well and over the years many logs from Russia have been exported for reprocessing by sawmills in Finland and Sweden.
Redwood when planed is soft, creamy reddish tinge in colour creamy smooth texture and knots tend to be live and add to the character. Many famous mills such as Kem, Segezha, Medveghegdorsk and others in the western region of Karelia have a lot of experience in exported to the UK and Europe.
